Iron core linear motors

Description

Iron core linear motors are most suitable for applications that require extremely high acceleration, speed and/or peak loads in point-to-point linear movements. They are distinguished, among other things, by :

  • High Power Density
The iron core linear motors are characterised by a high power output due to strong magnetic coupling between the forcer and the stator magnets.

  • Simple Heat Dissipation
The iron core itself helps to transfer the heat generated in the coils during operation, thereby facilitating the heat dissipation to the surroundings.

  • Simple Assembly
This type of linear motors can be easily assembled, with the forcer and the stator positioned directly opposite each other. It is important to ensure that the guide and base plate are sufficiently stable to absorb the magnetic force. 

Specific features of the iron core linear motors from Act in Time:

  • Higher force constant
As motor parameters, the force constant represents the amount of force produced per ampere of current, and the motor constant represents the amount of force produced per watt. The latter, an indication of motor efficiency, is a better measure of motor performance than the former.

  • Lower cogging torque
Cogging force arises from the variation in magnetic attraction on the iron core as the core moves past different magnetic poles on the stator.
With skewed magnets, the transition zone between the poles is spread out to reduce the variability of the magnetic attraction and the associated cogging force.
Using high-precision magnetic analysis software tools, the shape of the iron core and the angle of the magnetic field have been optimised to achieve designs with low cogging torque.

  • Better heat dissipation from the casing
The aluminium casing with a large surface area of the forcer helps to facilitate heat dissipation for the motor.

  • Built-in Hall Sensor and Overheating Detection
The motorforcer comes standard with built-in hall sensors and overheating detection, so the user does not need to purchase or install these as optional extras.
