Servomotors

Description

A servo motor is a motor designed to allow precise control in terms of position, dynamics and speed. An encoder and a servo drive are used in a closed control loop. Servo drives are typically controlled via Profinet, EtherCAT, CANopen, Analogue or via a Pulse/direction signal.

Servo motors cannot therefore be used as a separate motor and the performance is determined by the combination of the parts. They are commonly used in robotics, automated manufacturing and computer numerical control (CNC) machining applications.

This type of drive has some interesting features including:

  • High torquel
  • Compact design
  • A wide speed range
  • Long lifetime
  • Few vibrations

A servo motor is sometimes compared to a stepper motor because of the common application area. The big difference between the two, however, is that the servo motor always works in closed loop, while a stepper motor can also be controlled in open loop. This different internal structure makes the servo motor better suited for demanding applications where a larger speed range or 100% duty cycle is required. This technology is also more applicable for larger capacities..

The servo motors we offer at Act in Time are from the brand Inovance, one of the world leaders in the production of industrial automation solutions.

We also offer servomotors with built-in controls from the brand JVL.
This can be an advantage because of simpler cabling and space savings in the electrical control cabinet.
