From experimental project to Life-Saving technology

What once began as an experimental Robot Wars‑project by engineer and founder Kay Duyck has grown into NOOMAD: modular land drone platform designed for deployment in demanding environments. Today, the system is attracting interest from both civilian and defense-oriented users, thanks to its flexibility, robustness, and reliability.

For the movement of critical mechnical functions, NOOMAD relies on the expertise of ACT IN TIME.

One platform, many applications

NOOMAD was developed from the outset as a dual-use solution. Its modular design allows a single vehicle to be quickly adapted to different scenarios without major technical modifications.

The platform can be deployed across a wide range of sectors, including:

  • emergency services and fire brigade
  • industrial applications and inspection
  • monitoring and security
  • defence-related environments

This flexibility enables one vehicle to fulfill multiple roles without compromising on speed, safety, or operational reliability.

Reliable movement in challenging circumstances

A land drone operates in harsh environments: rain, dust, shocks, and rough terrain are part of its daily use. This places high demands on the drives and actuators used, especially for functions that must operate frequently and flawlessly.

For the platform’s hatch mechanism, NOOMAD selected Concens‑actuators supplied by ACT IN TIME. These actuators combine a compact design with a robust, terrain-resistant construction and are suitable for repeated opening and closing under varying conditions.

They are an essential part of the system, as the hatch mechanism plays a key role in swapping modules and adapting the vehicle to different applications.

ACT IN TIME provides the actuators that open and close the land drone’s hatch.

ACT IN TIME as a technical partner

Within this development process, ACT IN TIME acts as more than just a supplier. By actively contributing during the design phase and remaining flexible throughout development, the selected drive solution could be perfectly aligned with the needs of the NOOMAD platform.

In addition, we are also evaluating BLV-R motoren from Oriental Motor for control purposes, ensuring precise, efficient, and reliable operation.

The collaboration with NOOMAD illustrates how ACT IN TIME supports innovative projects:

- with technical expertise in drive technology and actuators
- with reliable solutions for demanding environments
- with the flexibility to evolve systems alongside the design

This approach enables faster development of new modules and ensures long-term, reliable performance of the platform in the field.

Innovation with furture potential

Projects like NOOMAD demonstrate how targeted motion technology contributes to innovation in fields such as autonomous systems, industrial robotics, defense, and security solutions. By choosing reliable motion solutions, developers can deploy their systems faster and rely on stable performance over time.
